Låtkursen at the Ekebyholm Castle, Rimbo, has been an institution in Swedish folk music life since its inception in 1976 – a mecca for nyckelharpa enthusiasts worldwide. For five intense days and nights, we fill the 17th-century Ekebyholm Castle and its park with musicians of all ages from across the globe.
During the lessons, participants get the opportunity to develop their skills at their own level and pace, expand their tune repertoire, work on bowing and playing techniques, and enhance groove, rhythm, and ensemble playing. The schedule also includes lessons in singing and dancing. Beyond the planned sessions, there will be song and music gatherings with teachers and fellow participants, as well as time for individual practice, spontaneous playing sessions, dancing, and singing. You’ll also have the chance to explore various aspects of the instruments.
The course also features evening concerts, giving participants the chance to meet other professional folk musicians and hear them perform and share their stories in an intimate setting.
Lessons are taught by ear. We welcome beginners, amateurs, and advanced nyckelharpa and fiddle players. Many previous participants have become some of Sweden’s most well-known professional folk musicians. Both participants and teachers speak of the special ”Ekebyholm spirit” – the course is so much more than just learning tunes!
