Central High School is located in Rapid City, South Dakota; a city of 70,000, which is situated in western South Dakota on the edge of the scenic Black Hills.
Rapid City Central High School has an enrollment of roughly 2,000 students in grades nine through twelve, ranging in age from 14 to 18 years. Under the direction of Andrew Belsaas and Jimmy Reed, some 140 students participate in the school’s Band activities, which include: three concert bands, three jazz bands, a pep band and a marching band. Some 110 students participate in Orchestra at Central High School, which is directed by Emily Pflaum. The orchestra program is made up of a string orchestra, chamber orchestra and a symphonic orchestra.
Central High School has had a long tradition of international travel. Over the past fifty years, Central High School Bands and Orchestras have made fourteen international concert tours which have included visits to Asia, Europe, and Australia.
